| About Me: 1 Room available in nice, centrally located 5bdrm house |
|
| Roommate Situation: We just moved into the house a week ago. We filled 4 out of 5 bedrooms but still have one available, rent is $725 (with one month's rent deposit). It's a nice house, with a nice open layout. The landlord has been very responsive about taking care of things around the house, and has allowed us to paint (offering to pay for paint). It also has a small backyard with a working charcoal grill and some outdoor furniture. There's a small garden started--we have some tomatoes and herbs going, hope to get a few more things in there soon. We have quite a bit of common area furniture (couches, chairs, dining room table, etc) and kitchen stuff (an intense amount of kitchen gadgets--ice cream maker, noodle-maker, dehydrater, everything you could want really) but it's a good-sized house, so I think we could accomodate more stuff if you have it. The available bedroom is a good size and can easily fit a full/queen size bed and bedroom furniture. The closet is also pretty big.
The neighborhood is decently safe. You have to be somewhat careful walking at night, but all of the neighbors are really nice and super-helpful (one helped us move in). The location is ideal, however. Walkable to Capitol Hill, U street bars, and Dupont. Closest metro is NY Ave (red line) but Union station is only 15 minutes away and Shaw-Howard is 15-20 minute walk away.
About us: There are 5 of us all together (4 official roomates, my sister is staying with us for the summer, waiting to join the Peace Corps). I'm a fairly new federal employee in the energy field, but I dabble quite a bit in art in my free time. I also like reading; drinking tea, coffee, and wine; random cultural events and interesting movies. Our other roomate that will be there beyond this summer is a union organizer, and as such travels during the week for work. She's also pretty artsy and easygoing, interested in world cultures and trying new food and wine. Our roomate that will be there for 3-6 mos is working for a climate change NGO promoting climate change legislation on the hill, and is very into outdoorsy pursuits. Our other roomate that will be there for the summer is interning at an NGO directed towards rape awareness (I've only known her a few days, but I'm fairly certain she's not a militant feminist, however). We're all females in our early to mid-20's (21-25).
About you: Easygoing, open communicator preferable, low-drama, male or female is fine, early to late 20's or early 30's is fine. Preferably young professional, or grad student, but open to others. Must be ok with cats (we have 2, but they are both very friendly). One cat or fewer should be fine. And a (calm) dog would definitely be a possibility. Our landlady casually mentioned we should get a dog, so I know she's cool with us having one. Able to pay rent and deposit (equal to first month's rent) immediately, or ASAP. We can work out something pro-rated if necessary. We just want a good, reliable roomate to move in ASAP.

Current residents are studious graduate students looking to share room with like minded individual.

I am currently a graduate student at Howard University, and have recently begun work on my dissertation. My roommate will be entering her second year of medical. We both are studious, respectful, and fairly clean. I currently work part-time and volunteer with school age children. My philosophy about home is that it should be a place where you feel comfortable and where everyone contributes to its maintenance. I am also invested in maintaining a drama-free household. Life is too short, and we've got bigger fish to fry. I am interested in a roommate who is mature, understands the unique lifestyle of a graduate student, who likes to have fun, and is willing to share in household chores.
