Moving and Packing Tips
It is possible that less people move from residence to residence because of the fear of moving boxes. Not only literally, moving boxes from place to place, but also just seeing the moving boxes themselves. Fear or no fear there are times that people must move. It could be because they have a new job somewhere else, do not get along with their roommate or for a variety of other reasons. The best thing to do is to facilitate the move and make it as pleasant as possible.
The first thing to do is to get the mandatory items, boxes for moving, moving supplies and packing supplies. The amount of supplies and the size of the moving boxes will depend upon the "worldly possessions" that must be transported. Don't skimp on supplies and be caught carrying possessions in your hands because you wanted to save a few dollars on the moving supplies and packing supplies. Have a checklist of what is going and make sure it is accurate.
Be certain that all moving boxes are marked accurately as to what room they belong in. Color code boxes according to your own formula for convenience. For example, the words kitchen supplies should be clearly marked on the moving boxes that have kitchen utensils or given a special color. It will save a lot of time later, carrying the moving boxes to the right part of the dwelling. Moving boxes should not contain any documents and irreplaceable papers. Put them in something convenient and keep them with you at all times. Similar to this idea is that if there are items that are not needed, give them to charity. It will save money, time and effort, and someone might benefit from the donation.
When filling the moving boxes have staging areas that are well organized. People can get injured if moving boxes are haphazardly placed around the room. Besides, it will be confusing if there is no system. One thing that should be obvious is make sure the items are clean and dusted before placing them into the moving boxes. This will cut down on time needed to perform this tedious chore later.
When packing the moving boxes, remember to put the heavier items on the bottom. If there is a preponderance of heavy items, small moving boxes that will hold the item(s) work better than larger moving boxes. All boxes should be sturdy and strong, even if they have to be purchased.
Pack the seldom-used items first and put them to the side. Now all concentration can be on the frequently used items. Hopefully, newspapers for cushioning items were collected for a time prior to the move. Give the moving boxes a shake before sealing them, to make sure everything is secure within. Have a special box for glass items and put tape across the glass to keep it from shattering should a jolt be encountered.
The moving boxes should be filled to forestall crushing, and packing paper or newspaper (an important supply) should be at the very top as well, to avoid damaging the goods when the moving boxes are cut open. Special moving boxes will be required for clothing to keep them in good condition, in case they have to worn in the future. The moving boxes for the clothing are called "wardrobe boxes" which moving companies sell or rent. Dishes go into a "dish barrel” boxes for moving for the obvious reason.
When moving in or out of a new apartment, these ideas should make a potentially unpleasant activity more pleasant. It will also save time when you are organized. Good luck!
